COVID-19 July Update

The list of countries whose citizens are now able to travel to Europe has been agreed upon by the European Union and the United States was not included. The EU agreed to continue the ban on travel for US citizens citing the continuing surge of cases in the US and the country’s overall response to COVID-19 which includes testing, surveillance, contact tracing and other containment issues. The list will be updated every two weeks so it is possible the US could eventually be added to the list if the country’s epidemiological situation improves. Countries can also be removed from the list if their situations worsen. A ban on travel from Europe to the US remains in place as does the US State Department’s Level 4 “Do Not Travel” Health Advisory for US citizens. There are a few European countries open to Americans with restrictions. Americans are still able to fly to Ireland and Britain, however a 14 day mandatory quarantine is required upon arrival. And for those of you wondering if you could you travel onward to Europe from there - highly unlikely unless you meet the criteria of having a residence or immediate family members. Iceland and Portugal that previously announced they would welcome US travelers are welcoming visitors only from Europe.
