A selection of hotels in Portugal - visited January 2024
All of the hotels would be considered boutique hotels, 5* (with the possible exception of Vintage House which I’d say is more 4*). Two sister hotels in Lisbon and Porto/Gaia (The Lumiares and The Rebello) are a high recommend - both feature large rooms with kitchenette facilities, beautiful rooftop terraces, an in house spa and pool and are in terrific locations for discovering each city. Le Monumental is perfect for those desiring a luxurious hotel complete with a Michelin-star restaurant and spa onsite. The Convento do Espinheiro with its stunning church and outdoor pools (located just outside of Evora) and the Quinta das Lagrimas located just outside of Coimbra are perfect hotels for a night or two to explore more of Portugal’s countryside. Vintage House is a centrally-located, riverfront hotel in the Douro Valley but I think smaller, more intimate properties would be a better choice in this area. The last hotel is The Principal in Madrid where I spent one night before flying home - a stylish hotel in the lively Chueco area, it is close to many small restaurants, tapas bars, shopping and clubs.
